Selected elements of tourist attractions in the district of Opole

These days many communes treat tourism as a major factor for economic activation and a simulator to economic growth. This is well visible in areas that are attractive in terms of tourism as follows: tourist values, access by transporta-tion and status of tourist development. The objective of the paper was to assess se-lected elements of tourist attractiveness of the districts in the province of Opole. The research has an additional practical objective since the results will be used by experts reviewing co-financing applications for projects under ROP OV 2007-2013. The research material used in this paper is secondary and has been acquired as a result of studies of statistics as well as bibliographic literature and studies. A descriptive method was applies which is one of induction research methods. The research covered 12 districts of the province of Opole and the year of 2008. The analysis covered selected elements of tourist attractiveness of the in-vestigated area. The research included: protected areas, number of musealia, length of public roads, number of road accidents, number of hotels and number of hotel beds. Assessment of spatial concentration of hotel facilities in Poland

Location is a major factor determining competitive level of today's service providers, including hotels. Location of a company in a specific place is decisive with respect to access of production factors, markets and ensures functioning within network structures. The cognitive objective os the paper is to assess spatial concentration of hotel facilities. The research material used in this paper is sec-ondary and has been acquired as a result of studies of statistics as well as literature of the subject and bibliographic studies. A descriptive method was applies which is one of induction research methods. The research covered all 16 provinces of Poland and the year of 2009. The study covered the following types of hotel facilities: hotels, motels, pensions, camping sites, hostels, youth hostels, overnight lodging facilities and campsites. Florence distribution index was applied to assess the spatial concentration of hotel facilities. The analysis of research results showed a low spatial concentration level of hotel facilities. The level of spatial concentration is differentiated depending on the type of hotel facilities. Reasons for location of selected hotel enterprises in Opole

Both for the consumer (tourist) and producer (entrepreneur) of hotel ser-vices, a very important feature of the hotel is its location. Attractive location and service program properly matched to it, decide in fact on the level of profitability, and consequently on the development prospects of the hotel. One of the steps in the procedure of choosing the most suitable location is to identify factors that determine the choice. In the most general way, these factors can be divided into those that relate to demand values and supply values. It should be noted that apart from these two groups of factors important condition for determining the location of the hotel can also be a local authorities actions to stimulate the development of hotel investments in the areas of reception.
