Corrections on optimising land parcel allocation to farms including distances between land parcels and farm homesteads

The aim of optimizing the allocation procedure of parcels to farms is to minimize distances between the lands and the farm buildings. Parcels allocated to farms using an optimized process of allocation are not clearly (unambiguously) determined. The allocation is of a highly random character, and, thus, adequate corrections should be applied. In the paper, three corrections are presented, which make it possible to obtain an optimal solution. The corrections deal with the unnecessary dislocation of parcels within farms, aim at reducing the number of parcels, and eliminate excessive increases in distances between the cultivated lands and the farm buildings. The corrections developed are exemplified by the case of a village of Wojków. In this village, upon the implemented corrections, the farms concerned still possess, to the highest possible extent, all the parcels they had prior to the optimization applied. Moreover, those farms consist of the fewest number of parcels and do not show unnecessary increase in the distances between their homestead areas and their lands. The corrected allotment procedures of parcels to farms could be usefully applied while determining a layout of parcels within farms in the blocks selected for the purpose of consolidating them, and, also, when the ...

Mechanization of agricultural farms in mountain conditions on Lower Silesia

The aim of the study was analysis of mechanization processes in selected agricultural farms functioning in mountain conditions of Lower Silesia. The evaluation of basic and specialistic mechanization equipment and the level of exploitation of this equipment was analysed. Moreover used forms of mechanization, investment plans, and landholders opinions connected to mechanization processes was analysed. The researches was conducted in 2007 on the area of 8 communes of former jeleniogórskie province and 3 communes of former wałbrzyskie province. The data came from 15 aimly selected individual farms dealing with Lower Silesian Advisory Center in Wrocław. Collected materials concerned 2006 year. The results shows relatively high technician and economic utilization of machinery basis and also in many cases not proper equipment to specify mountain conditions. Farmers are going to modernize their equipment parks with using EU financial help. They also knows possibilities of costs reducing through common utilization of machinery or mixed forms of mechanization. ...

Other gainful activity in agricultural holdings in Poland and eu countries

Development of off-farm activities should be perceived as a driving force of economic development, providing the chances for rural communities to find occupation beside the agriculture and plays a key role in the activation of rural areas. The paper presents an analysis of the off-farm economic activities in agri-cultural holdings in Poland and in the European Union countries. Economic ac-tivities were discussed in view of the size and specific character of farms. Spatial diversification concerning entrepreneurship of agricultural holdings in the EU in the years 2003, 2005 and 2007 was presented and dominating forms of off-farm activities were indicated. In view of the conducted analysis it may be stated that off-farm economic activities constitute an important element of these small area (up to 5ha) agricul-tural farms’ operations, both in Poland and in the whole Europe. It was proved that the kinds of activities undertaken by the European Union and Polish farms differ considerably. In the EU the most willingly undertaken activity is agricul-tural product processing, whereas in Poland the greatest number of farms pro-vides services using their own equipment. ...

THE ROLE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN AGRITOURIST ECONOMY

The study shows an analysis of renewable energy sources in terms of their use in agritourist farms. The conducted survey aimed at finding out whether it was the respondents' age, farm size or incomes obtained from different sources that had the biggest impact on decisions to invest in ecological energy media. An answer was provided to the question whether implementation of ecological energy systems was followed by significant reduction in agritourist activity costs. The level of interest in such energy media among farmers who do not use them was assessed. The attitude of agritourist service providers toward more effective utilization of natural resources to the advantage of the natural environment was determined ...
