The influence of anthropopression on plants cover and deposition of trace elements within the region of bottom sediments of hydraulic structures – the examples from polish carpathians streams

The aim of the following paper was to present the level of the chosen trace elements such as: Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn which were deposited within the bottom sediments in the region of hydraulic structures. Special attention was put to sediments trapped in the pools of check-dams and small channel bars found along the channelized parts of the mountain streams. The research was conducted on three Polish Carpathian streams: the lłynne stream, the Kudowski, and the Lubanski stream – all in the Gorce Mountains. All of the investigated streams are partly channalized and partly are in natural conditions. The contamination was stated in sediments of the Mlynne Stream in case of Ni, Cu and Cr. The sample were collected upstream the barrage (Ni and Cu) and ad the barrage Cr. The plant covers were determinated mainly by hydraulic structures. In case of vegetation the biggest anthropopression was stated in upstream of barrage sections located on the Mlynne and Kudowski Streams. ...

Springs of the Roztocze escarpment zone: the diversity of plant cover vs. environment quality

Field studies of springs were conducted in the years 1997−2008. They aimed to present the phytocoenotic and floristic diversity of springs of the Roz-tocze escarpment zone on the background of hydrogeochemistry of effluences, and to evaluate the degree of their naturality or antropogenization in relation to springs’ location (objects in forest vs. non-forest areas, particularly in rural ones), as well as to answer the question whether spring protection as nature monuments is effective. The study springs are accompanied by a specific set of species of vascular plants and bryophytes, representing different groups of krenophytes. Small spring niches are usually overgrown with communities of Cardamine amara-Chrysosplenium alternifolium and Cardamino-Beruletum erecti dominated by few species belonging to obligatory and/or facultative kreno-phytes. Along spring water effluences, patches of Glycerietum plicatae commu-nity are common. The presence of krenophytes indicates a high quality of the en-vironment of the Roztocze escarpment zone. In the large niches of vauclusian springs there also occur phytocoenoses dominated by synusia of tall macroforbs, e.g. Epilobium hirsutum, Mentha longifolia, Scrophularia umbrosa, Urtica dioica, Eupatorium cannabinum, Cirsium oleraceum. In rural areas, under the influence of the antropopressure (trodding, grazing, etc.) there occur nitrophi-lous carpet communities consisting of Poa annua, Lolium perenne, Plantago ...

Quality and Sable values of water of flysch stream with low anthropopressure

The paper presents the results of hydrochemical tests of the Głębieniec stream, a 4th order, right-side tributary of the Kamienica river. The stream catchment , of mountain character and area of 9.58km2, is situated in the malopolskie voivodship, limanowski county and Kamienica commune. The 81% of the catchment is managed as forest grounds, the remaining area is an extensively used agricultural land. The analyses were conducted in 2011 in five measurement-control points over a stream stretch of 3405 m. The reaction (pH), electrolytic conductivity, concentrations of oxygen saturation and dissolved oxygen were measured in water samples on site, whereas the other quality indices: dissolved solids, NH4, NO3,NO2, PO4, total phosphorus, SO4, Cl, Ca, Mg, total iron, Mn, Na, and K were assessed in a laboratory of the University of Agriculture in Krakow. On the basis of the assessment results the ecological state of the Głębieniec stream water was rates as very good in all measurement-control points. Except for the measurement-control point No.1, the stream water may be used for potable water supply, but it must be first subjected to physical and chemical treatment due to high concentrations of total iron and manganese. Also, except for point No.1 (exceeded nitrite concentrations), ...

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SNOW COVER AS AN IMPACT INDICATOR FOR LOCAL AIR POLLUTION SOURCES

In this article, selected physical and chemical properties of water originating from melted snow collected in the area of the city of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski (Poland) in January 2017 were determined. The analysed samples of snow were collected at 18 measurement sites located along the axis of cardinal directions of the world and with a central point in the urban area of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski in January 2017. Chemical composition was determined using the Dionex ICS 3000 Ion Chromatograph at the Environmental Research Laboratory of the Chair of Environmental Protection and Modelling at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. The obtained results indicated a substantial contribution of pollutants produced by a local steelworks in the chemical composition of melted snow. ...
