Granulometry and geometry dunes of the lowland part of the Rhine river

The paper describes geometric internal granulometric structure of lowland river bed forms called sand river dunes. Dunes are typical features associated with sand river bed and studies of processes connected with their formation are essential in understanding fluvial processes within the catchment. Also the knowledge of sedimentary structure and morphology of dunes are important for geologists and paleogeologists to interpret how sedimentary rocks were deposited. Also, in the time of changes of global and local climates, frequent changes of water regime in river could be noted when the development or not-development of river bed-forms can have an important influence on quantity of sediment moving in rivers and water reservoirs built on such rivers. The work was set up on the Rhine River in Germany close to Niderwalluf. The research conducted on the Rhine River involved many of research equipment and river vessels is very rare and unique in the world as far as fieldwork is concerned. Within a paper it is show, that the Rhine River Dunes do not reach the height H which would be expected by the water depth which is responsible for their formation. There could be a couple of reasons for such situation. One of those ...

Charakteristic and diversity hydromorphological parameters on lowland river for example Smortawa river

The Smortawa River, the right-hand sided tributary of the Odra River, is a typical lowland river which sources are located at 175 m a.s.l. south-east from town NamysÅ‚ów. The mouth is located in km223–350 of Odra River, on 124 m a.s.l. near town Jelcz. In the lower and upper course the river is improved and in the middle course it has kept its natural character. At present according to Water Frame Directive and Polish Water Law we are obliged to create an assessment of ecological state of rivers. One of elements of this assessment is the analysis of hydromorphological parameters variability as supporting parameters for biological assessment. In the article the characteristic of hydromorphological parameters by polish methods of Ilnicki and Lewandowski are are introduced. They describe the changes of these parameters on every separete research section. Moreover with the help of the probability analysis by the Ward method, the similarity is estimated among studied hydromorphological parameters. ...

Assessment of water retention possibilities in the catchment of the Struga Dor-mowska river

The paper present the detailed assessment of water retention possibility in the lakes situated in the Struga Dormowska River. These activities were important to increase satisfy water needs warranty of fish ponds. Struga Dormowska is the third rank river, the left tributary of the Warta River. The area of the catchment amounts 57.2 km2. The catchment has an agricul-ture-forest character and high lake density. Struga Dormowska flow through twelve lakes, which have an area of 240 ha. The area of each lake range from 2 to 79.6 ha. The catchment has a very small water resources. Specific runoff of the catchment equals about 2 dm3.s-1.km-2, and runoff coefficient about 0.1. The researches reveal that increase of lakes water retention allows to obtain high amount of disposal water, that allows to increase water needs of the fish ponds warranty satisfy located in the middle and lower part of the river. The estimation was based on amplitudes of water level in the lakes, elevation-storage curves and inventory of hydraulic structures along the river. Damming of the water in the seven lakes from 0.2 to 0.3 m in natural water level oscillations allows to gain about 0.4 mln m3 water in the usable ...
