The environmental impact assessment of planning removal of furnace disposal site of thermoelectric power station Czechnica in Siechnice

In the paper a problem of realization of environmental impact assessment of reclamation that consist in removal of wet disposal site of thermoelectric power station Czechnica in Siechnice, is undertaken. An attention is paid on the aim of disposal site removal, which is located in the vicinity of Wrocław water-bearing grounds and also in the vicinity of Nature 2000 area. On the basis of worked out in 2009 in the Institute of Geotechnics and Hydrotechnics of Wrocław University of Technology a conception of removal of this object, the constructional solutions and disposal site exploitation principles, conditioning a maintenance the continuity of electric and heat energy production are described. Natural environment state and possible threats during realization of this project are given. Requirement of individual treatment of this type of constructional object is emphasized, considering that during removal there are possibilities of different influence on surroundings in which object has been earlier operated.     ...

Reclamation as a method for settling flood damage

Extreme weather conditions, including floods, are affecting our country increasingly often. They cause a threat to human lives and huge economic, social and natural damage. Flood damage occurring in agriculturally-developed areas include, e.g. contamination of arable soil with chemical or biological substances, but also losses in agricultural crops, gathered supplies and farming machines. The aim of the study is to present reclamation procedures as one of the possible methods for settling flood damage. Land reclamation can be carried out as a part of post-consolidation management. Its aim is to restore usable properties of farming land damaged, for example, by flood. Areas recommended for reclamation are presented in the objectives of the land consolidation project. The direction of rendering a given area productive depends on many factors, which mainly include arrangements of the local zoning plan, social and economic needs and technical conditions of the land. ...

Accumulation of organic carbon in reclaimed soils. dumping grounds: Bełchatów, Machów, Turów

The paper presents the diversity of soil organic carbon (SOC) contents in soils of three reclaimed objects: external dumping grounds of mines Bełchatów, Machów and Turów. Sites vary in soil texture, age of tree stands and their species composition. The largest carbon pool in the organic level (litter) is in a dumping ground for the Turów mine,- the oldest of the objects. Similarly, the total SOC pool in the organic layer and the mineral to 30 cm deep in the soil is the largest dumping ground, Turów. The average annual increase in SOC stocks varied from about 0.5 t/ha/year in Bełchatów, after more than 1.2 t/ha/year in Machów. The annual deposition of organic carbon can be estimated at 1.7-2.5 t / ha / year. ...

Znaczenie rekultywacji i zagospodarowania gruntów w Polsce w kontekście ochrony środowiska

The article discusses the problems of reclamation and redevelopment of degraded land in Poland. Conducting corrective activities, related to land reclamation, remains the manifestation of care for the environment and has impact on reducing negative human influence on the environment. The measures used for this purpose should compensate for the lost values. Planning any corrective activities in degraded areas should take place at the earliest possible stage for the reclamation processes to function properly. The problems related to degraded and devastated areas, requiring reclamation or reclaimed and later developed, were analyzed in detail based on the available data about the size of degraded areas. Attention was paid to the size of the discussed phenomenon occurrence in order to determine the scale of the problem, having considered its spatial aspect. The conducted analysis also consisted in specifying activities as a result of which the largest degraded area is created, as well as identifying the leading directions of such reclamation. The article presents an attempt to answer the question about the approach towards reclamation activities in recent years in Poland. ...

THE CONCEPT OF LAND USE DEVELOPMENT OF A MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE LANDFILL: THE CEGŁÓW COMMUNE CASE STUDY

The presence of municipal solid waste landfills is an inevitable spatial phenomenon that expresses the planning properties of the process of land use, economic development and the relationship to the environment. The process of land use is continuous, in which a period of planning, development and management of its operation is followed by a period of decline in the performance of (aging) and the fall of the land. Closing the landfill and reclamation results in the appearance of problem areas, i.e. of degraded areas both on the site and in the area of its influence. The paper presents the concept of development of a closed municipal solid waste landfill in the village Woźbin in the commune Cegłów and adjacent areas. According to the ‘Project of closure and reclamation of municipal solid waste landfill in the village Woźbin, in the commune Cegłów' after the operation of the landfill as well as the technical and biological reclamation, can be implemented forest restoration direction. The concept of developing the reclaimed municipal landfill and the adjacent land is assumed to introduce the planned forest reclamation and complement the recreational function which will increase the attractiveness of the area and will enable its use in ...

THE IMPACT OF AGGREGATE EXPLOITATION ON CHANGES IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE COMMUNE OF LIPNICA (BYTOWSKI DISTRICT)

The study presents relations that occur between natural environmental features. They refer to the situation when one of the factors (in this case, lithology, determining attractiveness of the environment as a source of construction aggregates) begins to decide about spatial directions of the area development, as well as the development strategy of a given spatial unit. As a research site, the commune of Lipnica (Bytowski district) was selected, a part of which is located on a outwash plain, rich in sand and gravel deposits. Exploitation of gravel and sand that has been conducted there for over thirty years (bringing for years over 20% of the commune's income) results in significant unfavourable changes in the environment. Transformations of the landform, the lithology of sediment build-ups, water and soil conditions, thus causing the reduction of attractiveness for both agriculture and forestry as well as for potential tourist use, including the development of agritourism. In this situation, the promotion of the nature and beautiful landscape of the commune and the development of agritourism, as assumed in the "Strategy for the development of the commune of Lipnica for the years 2012-2020" are becoming problematic. Some of the aggregate mines are located near lakes ...
