The method of gaining natural water basins using digital terrain model and GIS tools

Protection of water and land, terrestrial ecosystems and wetlands depend on water which are regarded as a national treasure, requires the establishment the sustainable management of resources, including preventing degradation and protection against the deterioration of their condition. The research are aimed at evaluating the possibility of using modern geospatial data such as DTM, aerial photography and digital images and their visualizations using GIS tools to acquire natural surface water, areas at risk of flooding and pollution associated with ground water and surface runoff including agricultural land. The study was conducted within the city of Koszalin in the typical urban and suburban develop-ment. The results show that the developed methods are more cost effective and less labor intensive than traditional, and characterized by high accuracy of determining the boundaries of areas. ...

Water protection of the Bystrzyca river in the spatial policy of communes within the Wrocław district

The study aims at presenting the spatial policy of communes located along the course of the river Bystrzyca in the Wrocław district, with regard to the protec-tion of the environmental values of the watercourse. The documents analysed in-clude the studies of determinants and directions for the spatial management applied in the Mietków, Kąty Wrocławskie and Sobótka communes. The articles were studied with regard to identifying the values of the natural environment with special emphasis on water resources, protecting the aquatic environment, and further directions for water protection. The study also focuses on the planned spatial development for investment in the vicinity of the Bystrzyca Valley Landscape Park as well as within its area, with regard to the area planned for investment. ...

Profile of water quality indicators changes in Stobrawa river

This paper presents the research results of pollution level in Stobrawa river. The research was carried out on 19,5 km of the river in six test points: from the cross-section of the planned Kluczbork storage reservoir (point St.1) to the river source (point St.6). The test was carried out between November 2006 and October 2007. In the tested samples following compounds were determined: NO3-, NO2-, NH4+, PO43-, Ptot., BOD5, DO, TSS, water temperature, water reaction and elektro-lytic conductivity. Beside water quality tests, the hydrometric measurements were carried out. The paper also presents Stobrawa river quality valuation. The valua-tion of eutrophication of the Stobrawa river has been presented as well and it has been determined if the water is prone to nitrogen compounds pollution from agri-culture. The Stobrawa river catchment area has been valuated taking into consid-eration the flowing matter into the body water. The test has shown vast pollution of water flowing into the Kluczbork water body. Subsequently it may negatively influence the water quality in the body of water in terms of its future possible water retention. It has been shown that the familiarity of the profile of water quality indica-tors changeability is crucial while taking decision whether to build ...
