HORIZONTAL CURVE RADII VERSUS TURNING ABILITIES OF VEHICLE COMBINATIONS FOR TIMBER TRANSPORT

State Forests make various road investments in cooperation with local self-governments. Jointly modernized roads facilitate local transport for both parties. The prerequisite is proper selection of technologies and project parameters for the modernized roads. The paper aimed to analyze the minimum horizontal curve radii for various elements of roads (on exits, road junctions and vehicle maneuvering areas) depending on the vehicle combinations for timber transport. The scope of works comprised:• analysis of technical conditions for public roads;• analysis of kinematic relationships for vehicle combinations for timber transport;• determining the types of vehicle combinations for timber transport;• empirical determination of the turning abilities of timber haulage vehicle combinations and fire engines.Potential vehicle combinations used for timber transport were determined on the basis of data collected from the customers. Tests of turning abilities of vehicle combinations used for long and short timber transport and for forest fire fighting used by the State Fire Service units were conducted on a maneuvering area, at the curves with radius R = 11.0 m; 13 and 15 m and steering angle α = 90o.A combination of a truck with a trailer or steered cart revealed the best turning parameters. It was demonstrated that the rounding radius R = 11.0 m ...

MITE (ACARI) OCCURRENCE IN SELECTED SUBSTRATES USED FOR A RESTORATION OF DEGRADED SOILS

The number and groups of mites (Acari) and species composition of oribatid mites (Oribatida) were analysed in three different substrates used for the restoration of degraded soils: (1) pine forest litter, (2) apple orchard litter, and (3) pine chips. The study was conducted in the years 2011-2012, on microplots of the area of 1m2, established in a belt of trees of a nursery in Białe Błota (Bydgoszcz Forest District). Average biannual mite density per 50 cm3 of the investigated substrates ranged from 14.6 to 54.43 individuals. The highest numbers of mites were found in shredded forest litter and the lowest in pine chips. The most abundant mites in the studied material were oribatid mites, accounting for 57.3 % of these arthropods. The highest number of oribatid mites was found in the forest litter (28), and the lowest (20) in pine chips. The number of species in both types of litter was similar in the first and second year of the study, but it rose three times in the pine chips substrate over the study period. Oribatid species in the litter substrates were dominated by the eurytopic Tectocepheus velatus, and the most abundant species in the pine chips substrate was Oribatula ...

LEVEL OF SPATIAL PLANNING CULTURE OF RURAL GMINAS IN THE CENTRAL REGION OF POLAND

Spatial planning in Poland undergoes constant changes due to the activity of the legislative body. These changes to a varying extent affect the activity of local authorities of rural gminas in the scope of spatial planning. The diversity in rural gminas is especially noticed in the application of land-use plans, and consequently also the planning permissions. Similarly, this diversity concerns changing the status of farmland from agricultural to residential and deforestation of agricultural and forest land. These factors are the elements forming the level of spatial planning culture that results from the regulations forming the spatial planning system. The equivalent element that forms the spatial planning culture is use of tools available by law, taking into consideration their gradation due to their complexity. These assumptions allowed for using the Central Statistical Office's resources to form indexes related to the area of spatial planning. These indexes became the component parts involved in the construction of Hellwig's synthetic measures of development. By using synthetic measures, it was possible to form the classification of rural gminas in the central region of Poland due to their level of spatial planning culture. The obtained results allowed for the evaluation of the level of spatial planning culture ...

OOXIDATION OF METHYL ALCOHOL WITH Ni-Co CATALYST

Due to development of the renewable energy sources, the powering of fuel cells (FCs) with bio-fuels is very important. The one of this fuel is methyl alcohol. The use of fuel cells on a large scale is mainly limited by the high cost of catalysts - mainly platinum. Elimination of Pt as catalyst would allow for wider commercial application of FCs. The paper presents a study of methyl alcohol electrooxidation on electrode with Ni-Co alloy catalyst. Researches were done by the method of polarizing curves of electrooxidation of methanol in glass vessel. Conducted measurements show that there is a possibility of electrooxidation of methanol with Ni-Co catalyst. In any case, the process of electrooxidation of methanol occurs. A maximum current density was equal 50 mA/cm2. So, the work shows possibility to use Ni-Co alloys as catalysts for fuel electrode to methyl alcohol electrooxidation. ...

THE IMPACT OF AGGREGATE EXPLOITATION ON CHANGES IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE COMMUNE OF LIPNICA (BYTOWSKI DISTRICT)

The study presents relations that occur between natural environmental features. They refer to the situation when one of the factors (in this case, lithology, determining attractiveness of the environment as a source of construction aggregates) begins to decide about spatial directions of the area development, as well as the development strategy of a given spatial unit. As a research site, the commune of Lipnica (Bytowski district) was selected, a part of which is located on a outwash plain, rich in sand and gravel deposits. Exploitation of gravel and sand that has been conducted there for over thirty years (bringing for years over 20% of the commune's income) results in significant unfavourable changes in the environment. Transformations of the landform, the lithology of sediment build-ups, water and soil conditions, thus causing the reduction of attractiveness for both agriculture and forestry as well as for potential tourist use, including the development of agritourism. In this situation, the promotion of the nature and beautiful landscape of the commune and the development of agritourism, as assumed in the "Strategy for the development of the commune of Lipnica for the years 2012-2020" are becoming problematic. Some of the aggregate mines are located near lakes ...

THE MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF LOCAL SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS IN POLAND

The aim of the article is to present regularities regarding the size, shape and topological characteristics of existing (passed) local spatial development plans in Poland (Polish communes). The source material for the research was planning documents, drawings of which were authorized by Geo-System and made available through WMS/WFS network services. As a result, it was possible to obtain information on the course of boundaries in the field, and thus the analysis of regularity, structure characteristics, etc. in terms of surface, shape and topological relations. Total of 15,390 local plans were analyzed, i.e. 31.2% of their total number in Poland. The article is the first in Poland analysis of the structure (area, boundaries, shape, etc.) based on a large, many thousandth attempt of local documents. The conclusions from the research show that the method of selecting areas to cover plans and defining their boundaries on the ground do not contribute to the improvement of spatial order and that the spatial extent of impact of these documents is not much larger than in the case of location decisions (decision on building conditions and land development). ...

CLIMATE OF VEGETATION SEASON IN ZIELONKA FOREST AND IN WIELKOPOLSKI NATIONAL PARK IN PERIOD 1848-2016

The Puszcza Zielonka and the Wielkopolski National Park are a big forest complex near the Poznan city. Is taken as the reference meteorological data for the Puszcza Zielonka and the Wielkopolski National Park based on data from the Poznan gauge station. The climate in the Puszcza Zielonka and in the Wielkopolski National Park shows relatively high stationarity. Air temperature (T) for these forest areas, from 1848-2016, shows in vegetation seasons, the positive trend of 0.004 0C/year (Sen's slope) on the significance level α = 0.05. While precipitation (P) and Sielianinov's hydrothermal coefficient (HTC) do not exhibit statistically significant changes. Fourier analysis of periodicity of air temperature indicates the dominant cycles: 84.5-; 56.3-; 15.4-; 3.5- and 3.3-years. An analogous analysis indicate the periodicity of precipitation: 7.0-; 4.0-; 3.6-; 3.3- and 2.8-years. Very similar, periodicity dominant was obtained for Sielianinov's hydrothermal coefficient ie.: 7.0-; 3.9-; 3.3-; 2.8- and 2.1-year. You can indicate that in Poznan, and therefore also in the Puszcza Zielonka and in the Wielkopolski National Park, in vegetation seasons, between 1848-2016 (almost 170 years) air temperature has increased by about 0.7 0C, while precipitation remained on unchanged level. Sielianinov's hydrothermal coefficient, which is a comprehensive assessment of the conditions falls ...

ASSESSMENT OF THE USEFULNESS OF UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES TO INSPECTION OF EROSIVE PROCESSES ALONG TOURIST TRAILS IN TERMS OF GEOMORPHOLOGICAL MAPPING

The paper is an attempt to determine the suitability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for geomorphological studies. The research was carried out in the Tatra National Park (green trail from Myślenickie Turnie to Kasprowy Wierch). Morphogenetic processes occur with high intensity in this area and give rise to numerous erosive form. A multirotor equipped with a non-metric visible light camera was used for measurements. The acquired data was used to generate a high resolution orthophotomap and a digital surface model (DSM). As part of the in-field data capture, geomorphological mapping of the research area was carried out as well. On this basis, it was possible to assess the suitability of the generated DSM for the geomorphological research. Moreover, the correlation between the DSM and the terrestrial geomorphological mapping is evaluated. In virtue of obtained data, effects and the intensity of tourist trails erosion were assessed in this part of the Tatra Mountains. The analysis involved the orthophotomap and the DSM (current data) as well as archival data from aerial laser scanning (ALS) conducted in 2012. Interpretation of above-mentioned results allowed to conclude that the data originating from UAV is very helpful in geomorphological studies. It is possible to determine the ...

ON THE ESTIMATION OF THE WATER NEEDS OF FRUIT TREES IN POLAND BASED ON AIR TEMPERATURE

The paper presents simple equations for estimation of water needs of fruit trees for conditions of Poland. These formulas are derived on the base of numerical data provided by many authors. Water needs of fruit trees can be estimated on the base of air temperature according to data and methodology of Drupka, Kemmer and Schulz as well as Press. The method of estimation of fruit tree evapotranspiration with the use of crop coefficients for particular months of the vegetation period (acc. to Doorenbos and Pruitt and acc. to Treder) and reference crop (grass) evapotranspiration on the base of air temperature (acc. to: Treder, Hargreaves in modification of Droogers and Allen, Hargreaves in modification of Bogawski and Bednorz, Blaney-Criddle in modification of Żakowicz) are also presented. The presented formulas can be helpful in estimating the irrigation needs of orchards (and vineyards) in conditions of Poland. The presented formulas can be also useful in making decisions on the location of irrigation equipment and the possible application of irrigation in orchards (and vineyards) in Poland. ...

THE USE OF THE SERVQUAL METHOD IN THE ASSESSMENT OF THE MUNICIPAL WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE

The work assessed the quality of services in the field of collection of waste in the urban-rural commune of Wadowice. The research was carried out in 2013-2015. The form of a questionnaire survey was adopted as a research tool. The method used to measure the quality of SERVQUAL services (service quality) defines the discrepancy between the consumer's expectations and the perception of the product. The assumption of this method is to express the quality of services as the difference between the service expected by the client (expected quality) and the service received (purchased quality). The result of the analysis allowed for the assessment of the quality of services provided in the field of collection of waste in the studied commune and the selection of the preferred enterprise by the residents of the Wadowice commune in the aspect of waste collection. Residents of the Wadowice commune show higher expectations as regards the service of receiving municipal waste from their property. They attach great importance to the reliability of the company providing this service. ...

ASSESSMENT OF THE COMPOSITION AND STATE OF THE FISH FAUNA OF SMALL STREAMS IN CENTRAL AND WEST OF POLAND USING THE EUROPEAN FISH INDEX (EFI+)

River monitoring for the status and species composition of ichthyofauna is one of the forms of open water fisheries management. Research conducted on 10 selected for maintenance works of small rivers was to determine the composition and density of native and invasive fish and estimating the European Fish Index (EFI +) to assess the ecological status of designated sites in these rivers located in the Vistula and Oder basin. A total of 1405 fish, belonging to 24 species, were captured. Native species predominated, however, 19% of the fish caught were invasive species. The most common species was roach (Rutilus rutilus), but the most numerous was the gudgeon (Gobio gobio). At the researched stations, the maximum value of the EFI+ amounted to 0.868. After division into classes according to the value of the EFI + index, the majority of investigated sites where fish were found (24 of 28 sites), the EFI + value was between 0.00 to 0.40. This relatively small value indicated a poor condition of fish habitats, which was confirmed by low classes of ecological status at individual sites. Only in the case of the 1st position in the Tywa river and the 3rd position in the Czarna-Cedron ...

ANALYSIS OF INPURITIES IN SELECTIVELY COLLECTED PLASTIC WASTE - CASE STUDY

The basic element of a well-organized municipal waste management system is selective waste collection. Separation of waste "at source" (eg in a household) facilitates further handling of waste, in particular transferring it to recycling and recovery. By 2020, a minimum of 50% of the municipal waste, such as paper, metal, plastic and glass, should be recycled or re-used. These wastes are collected selectively in households, offices, offices and service outlets. The aim of the article is to present the results of the analysis conducted during one year of the structure of selectively collected waste in the yellow bag dedicated for plastic waste, with particular emphasis on the share of impurities, that is all those types of waste that should not be thrown into this yellow bag. The research was carried out at MIKI Recykling Ent. from November 2016 to October 2017. Waste came from 3 rural communes. Analysis of the results of the conducted tests showed that the share of impurities in the stream of selectively collected plastics is on average 26.8%, while the most common impurities are: cardboard, "other plastics materials" and glass. About 30% of these impurities can be directed to recycling or recovery processes, while the remaining stream ...

PRINCIPLES FOR DEVELOPING TREE-LINED ROADS WITH IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY

Green alleys and tree-lined roads or streets have been the topic of debate for many years now and every accident caused by tree becomes an argument for the removal of adjacent trees. Social opinions are shaped by isolated cases of fatal accidents caused by toppling trees, publicized by the media in a way that amplifies the perceived scale of the threat. Efficient hazard prevention requires risk management plans as well as tree monitoring using an objective hazard assessment method. The aim of this study is create principles for developing tree-lined roads with importance of safety. Three models of roadside plantings were developed. They were compared with existing local (30) and main (5) roads where road accidents were reported. It was assessed which road features influence accidents related to hovering on a tree. Large trees near roads do not have to pose a threat to people and property. However, the distance between tree trunks and the edge of the road has a significant impact on safety. ...
