APPLICATION OF THE FILTRATION BED WITH A FOAM-SAND FILLING FOR TREATMENT OF SEWAGE WITH AN ELEVATED CONCENTRATION OF AMMONIA NITROGEN

The two-stage technological system for the treatment of domestic sewage, characterized by an elevated concentration of ammonium nitrogen, consisted of a settling tank and a vertical flow multi-layer filter bed with a sponge-sand filling was analyzed. In the upper part of the filling in the form of spongy polyurethane foams there was the removal of hardly decomposable organic compounds and ammonium nitrogen without the need for additional aeration. In the lower layer of quartz sand, the removal of orthophosphates and pathogenic bacteria took place. After 400 days of operation, multi-layered filter beds achieved high average removal efficiency under variable hydraulic load conditions. The upper 30 cm layer of waste foams used, combined with the 60-cm bottom layer of sand, proved to be very effective in the removal of ammonium nitrogen and organic compounds. The degree of N-NH-4+, CODCr and BOD5 elimination was at 91.6, 77.4 and 91.7% respectively. The 30-cm upper layer of waste foams used combined with the 60-cm lower layer of sand allowed for removal of Escherichia coli in 98.9% on average, whereas coliform bacteria - in 95.0%. ...

EVALUATION OF THE PROCEDURE FOR EXCLUDING LAND FROM AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IN THE CONTEXT OF DISCLOSURE OF CHANGES IN THE USE OF LAND IN LAND AND BUILDING RECORDS

The purpose of this article was to evaluate the procedure for excluding land from agricultural production in the context of disclosing land use changes in the land and building records. In order to examine the problem presented, a descriptive analysis of existing legal acts and publications was performed, and a case study was analized. The research was based on data from 2010-2019 obtained from the District Eldership and District Center of Geodetic and Cartography Documentation in Kazimierza Wielka (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship). The work presents subsequent stages related to the disclosure of changes in land development created on the land as a result of the start of the investment process. Attention was drawn to the extension of the investment process by the applicants for excluding land from agricultural production. Studies have shown that only 15% of decisions authorizing the exclusion of land from agricultural production in the Kazimierz District in the years 2010-2018 were actually implemented and completed with updating the land and building records. However, this is not a value corresponding to the real number of excluded areas, because based on the field interview, it can be indicated that only on 12% of the analyzed plots, the investment process was not ...

INVESTIGATION OF HEATING AND COOLING DEGREE-HOUR VALUES IN GREENHOUSES WITH DIFFERENT COLOR COVER MATERIALS: THE CASE OF LETTUCE PLANT

In this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of greenhouse cover material of different color on the number of heating (HDHN) and cooling degree hours (CDHN) and heating (HDH) and cooling degree hours (CDH) of the lettuce plant. For this purpose, the study was carried out in the CtrlG (Control transparent PE greenhouse), RedG (Red PE greenhouse) and BlueG (Blue PE greenhouse). The study was completed in 2018 at ISUBU research and application farm. The temperature values measured in the three greenhouses with the same dimensions were the material of the study. HDH, CDH, HDHNs, and CDHNs were calculated by examining the measured temperature values and suggested temperature values for the lettuce plant. By using these values, it was tried to determine suitable cover material during the growing period of the lettuce plant. It has been concluded that the use of colored covering material is more suitable in terms of energy needs in almost all growing periods of lettuce plants. By comparing the values calculated for RedG and BlueG based on CtrlG, the coefficients of variation were calculated to determine which data series or series were more similar to each other. According to the coefficients of variation, the ...

THE ANALYSIS OF BIODEGRADATION PROCESS OF SELECTED PAPER PACKAGING WASTE

In recent years, a significant surge in the mass of generated waste with varying morphological composition has been observed. Packaging made of both plastic and paper has an increasing share in the municipal solid waste stream. The multiplicity of packaging means that proper methods and installations are needed to appropriately manage the waste generated from it. A special type of packaging waste is made of paper and cardboard and it is considered as biodegradable waste. It can be processed in both mechanical (material) and biological treatment processes. Thanks to the microorganisms involved in biological treatment processes, the organic matter present in waste should be decomposed (biodegradable). The main aim of the study was to analyze the dynamics of the biodegradation process of selected packaging waste made of paper and cardboard in various research environments. The waste used for the analysis differed primarily in grammage. The dynamics of the decomposition rate of the examined waste was analyzed for materials placed in 4 different research environments. The analysis showed significant differences in the rate of biodegradation of the tested waste. Differences were also found in the rate of material decomposition in individual research environments. Materials with low grammage such as paper towels and ...
