Comparison of heat requirements in greenhouses for kirşehir and kahramanmaraş provinces

Greenhouses are artificial growing environments that can provide the growth factors required for the production of crop plants out of season. In these structures, the low temperature values that occur during the year cause losses in yield and quality because they are not suitable for plant cultivation. In order to be able to grow out of season in these periods, the amount of heat required by the plants should be provided with additional heating. In the study carried out to determine the amount of heat needed in greenhouses throughout the year for the provinces of Kırşehir and Kahramanmaraş, which are located in two different regions of Turkey, the heat requirements that will arise in the presence or absence of a thermal screen in greenhouses with the same characteristics were calculated. In the calculations, the most common tomato plant grown in both provinces has been considered. Accordingly, if the greenhouse temperature is kept at a constant temperature of 18°C throughout the year, the heat energy requirements that emerge during the year are 469.90 kWh m.-2 for Kırşehir and 254.71 kWh m.-2 for Kahramanmaraş. In the case of using a thermal screen, these values were calculated as 401.53 kWh m.-2 for Kırşehir ...

Comparison of stress susceptibility index of silage corn and sorghum crops

Drought is an important factor that causes a decrease in yield and quality in regions where second crop silage plants are grown. One of the biggest problems in animal husbandry is feed. Especially silage feed production tends to decrease in areas with increasing water deficit and where water needs cannot be met. The high water requirement of the corn plant requires irrigation in arid and semi-arid regions. However, in order to continue the production of silage fodder in regions where water resources are insufficient with the increase of drought, it will be necessary to grow forage plants that can be an alternative to corn plant. In previous studies, it has been discussed whether the sorghum plant is an alternative to the corn plant. The aim of this study is to determine the drought sensitivity index based on the yield values of both plants in wet and dry conditions. Thus, it will be determined whether the sorghum plant will be an alternative to the corn plant in terms of drought. The identification and selection of drought-resistant cultivars and species is possible using various indices. In this study, second crop silage maize and sorghum crops were grown in Kahramanmaraş conditions for two ...

Evaluation of harvest waste in soilless agriculture tomato cultivation

In this study, it was carried out in order to determine the amount of plant nutrients that can be obtained from the wastes of tomato plants grown with soilless agriculture technique in the greenhouse and to make suggestions for evaluation possibilities. For this purpose, cocopeat and plant samples were taken from the soilless greenhouse where tomatoes were grown at the end of production. The stem, leaf, fruit and root of the collected cocopeat and plant samples were separated and N, P, K, analyzes were made in these separated samples. According to the results obtained, the amount of N that can be added to the soil with the cocopeat wastes is determined as 10.58 kg, the amount of P 0.09 kg and the amount of K 0.52 kg for one decare area. The total N amount that can be gained from the roots, stems, leaves and fruits of the waste tomato plant per decare area was determined as 6.65-11.97 kg, P content 1.22-2.52 kg and K amount between 5.10-18.21 kg. Considering the distribution of the amount of NPK that can be added to the soil according to the plant parts. On average, 4.18 kg in root, 2.50 kg in stem, ...

Effect of beneficial microorganisms on the vegetative growth, yielding and nutritional status of ‘šampion’ apple trees

The effects of bacterial and fungal inocula on the growth, yielding, and nutritional status of apple trees was evaluated in 3-years experiment (2018 - 2020). The experiment included the following treatments: (i) control (unfertilized soil), (ii) no fertilization + soil application of fungi, (iii) no fertilization + soil application of bacteria. The mixture of beneficial fungi contained two species: Aspergillus niger and Purpureocillium lilacinum. The mixture of beneficial bacteria contained three strains of Bacillus (Bacillus sp., Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Paenibacillus polymyxa). The application of beneficial microorganisms (especially bacterial strains) to the soil (without additional mineral fertilization) enhanced the growth of the apple trees. In the third year of the study (2020), the trees grown in the plots inoculated with bacteria bloomed the most intensively. Plant nutritional status (expressed as concentrations of elements in leaves) was not affected by the application of the bacterial strains or filamentous fungi. The stronger growth of trees in the plots where the bacteria were used was likely related not so much to the nutritional status of the trees, but to the mitigation of the influence of the negative factors that cause the replant disease. ...

Vegetative measures regarding animal manure management based water pollution; sustainable agricultural infrastructure and innovative strategies within the example of küçük menderes basin

In Turkey, the renewable water potential per capita is rapidly decreasing in response to the increasing population. Of the 234 billion m³ renewable water potential of our country, 41 billion m³ consists of groundwater and 193 billion m³ consists of rivers. One of the measures to be taken in order to protect renewable water resources in our country, which is not rich in water, is to try to minimize the damage to ground and surface waters caused by solid and liquid wastes that occur in animal shelters. This damage occurs especially with the washing of negatively charged nitrate in the fertilizer content by factors such as precipitation and the increase in the nitrate level of water resources. For the prevention and reduction of environmental problems arising from the said polycultural enterprises; Ecological evaluation of the transition to sustainable farming methods is one of the elements of urgency for the ecological sustainability of animal husbandry. In this study; the definition, scope and briefly the principles of sustainable agricultural methods for the management of nitrate pollution, which is one of the most important parameters that cause water pollution from agricultural production, are emphasized, the reasons for the transition to sustainable agricultural methods ...

Use of analytical hierarchy process in dairy cattle barn site selection

The first thing to do when planning dairy cattle barns is to determine a suitable management location. Site selection is a very important decision, as it will be difficult and costly to compensate for the mistakes made after the establishment of the enterprise. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is used in the solution of complex problems, creates a hierarchical structure in the decision-making process in the form of purpose, criteria, sub-criteria and alternatives. AHP is defined as the method of choosing the best among many alternatives. In this study, 5 main criteria (topography, land use, marketing conditions, environmental factors and infrastructure adequacy) and 20 sub-criteria were determined in order to determine suitable areas for dairy cattle barns. In order to determine the weighted values of the criteria, a total of 30 surveys were conducted with academicians who are experts in their fields, agricultural engineers working in the livestock sector and officials working on animal production in institutions.According to the results of the survey, it has been revealed that the most important criterion among the main criteria is environmental factors. Considering the paired comparison results of the sub-criteria; it was concluded that among the topography criteria, the importance levels of the ...

Estimation of missing sediment concentration data in agricul-tural drainage basins and detection of seasonal variation

In this study, it was aimed at determining the seasonal variability in the sed-iment concentrations observed in an agricultural drainage basin. This research was carried out in an agricultural basin of 9 495 ha, located in the Cukurova region within the borders of Adana province, in Turkey. In order to determine the sedi-ment concentrations, an automatic water sampler was set at the outlet (L4) of the main drainage channel (YD2) that provides drainage of the basin. Drainage water samples with 250 ml volume were taken on a daily time step. Sediment concentra-tion values of the water samples taken were determined in the laboratory by the drying and evaporation method. The sediment concentration series observed in the 2020 hydrological year were directly associated with the sediment data observed simultaneously at the drainage flow observation station located in the Sirkenli village, downstream of the YD2. Daily sediment concentration series in L4 was disaggregated by months and seasons of the hydrologic year 2020 to make a tem-poral comparison among the data. Temporal analysis showed that the sediment concentration values have been prone to an increase in heavily rainy periods as well as in irrigation season. Additionally, it was determined that the correlation between ...

Deficit irrigation under water stress and salinity conditions: fao-aquacrop model

In this research, estimation potential of Aquacrop model under deficit irrigation and sa-linity conditions were evaluated for winter wheat grown under arid and semi-arid climates. Five different irrigation strategies and irrigation water salinity levels (0.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15 dS m-1) were taken with the model to estimate deficit irrigation and salinity scenarios. Wheat grain yield, biomass production and canopy cover were simulated under deficit and salinity stresses. According to estimation of the model; the deficit irrigation with water reduction of more than 75 % of full irrigation was applied at growth stages of wheat, revealed the significant reduction in grain yield, biomass and canopy cover as compared with full irrigation practice. The increa-se in irrigation water salinity caused a significant decrease in grain yield and biomass value. It was compared to the 0.5 dS m-1 salinity level, a low value of 3% was obtained for the 5 dS m-1 salinity level. Yield loss of 7.5, 10 and 15 dS m-1 salinity levels were found to be 18.97%, 42.5% and 85.6% respectively. Also, increasing irrigation water depth in saline treatments resulted in increased grain and biomass yield. For sustainable water management in agriculture area, using simulation model such as ...
