Formation of ecological attitudes based on the example of students from the agriculture and economics faculty at the Agriculture Sciences University in Krakow

This research presents results of survey polls in which 260 students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Economy at the Agriculture Sciences University in Krakow participated. The survey is comprised of open-end questions. This re-search indicates that beginning of formation of ecological consciousness is estab-lised in the period of elementary school, including childhood years and kinder-garden. Environmental attitudes are well developed during college years. Ecology is most often associated with principal environmental protection, environmental protection supported by adequate tasks, as a type of attitude and lifestyle, as well as a science which pertains to the interactions between individual organisms and the environment. Among subjects which shape certain pro-environmental attitudes we should mention ecology, biomonitoring and monitoring of environment, envi-ronment protection, ecological farming, protection of nature and waste manage-ment.     ...

Selected methods pertaining to the assessment of agricultural tourism attractive-ness of rural regions

Agricultural tourism may be treated not simply as leisure activity in rural environment, but also as a form of acquiring additional sources for farmers' in-come. It can also be regarded as a subject of teaching and agricultural consulting. Agricultural tourism often employs methodology that is derived from other scien-tific fields such as: statistics, geography, economy, and agronomy. This elabora-tion constitutes an attempt to adapt selected methods from the aforementioned dis-ciplines. The selected methods include the following: typology of attractions and diagnostic features of rural space, determinants of development, SWOT analysis, product map, semantic profile, Delpphy's method, discrete method, model method, interchanging of stimulants to distimulants, standardization of features and tech-niques of survey studies for the purpose of assessing the diversity of agrotourism space as well as perception of attractions carried out by scholars. ...

Atmospheric circulation conditions of agricultural drougths in the podkarpackie province

This article presents the analysis of atmospheric circulation conditions per-taining to agricultural droughts in the Podkarpackie Province during the growing season (1901-2000). The following resource materials have been used: daily ca-lendar of atmospheric circulation types elaborated by T. Niedzwiedz for southern Poland, and growing season meteorological calendar elaborated by T. Zawora for southern Poland for the following monthly periods. The author had to determine the frequency of atmospheric circulation types for months which have been recognized by agricultural specialists as too dry (due to precipitation deficit). Drought hazard may be expressed by the following ratio: frequency of occurrence of a given circulation type during drought conditions to general frequency of circulation types. This method enabled to present detailed results. Firstly during the growing season the anticyclonic circulation type - advection of air from southwest - occurs 1,38 more frequently than the general frequency of this particular circulation type (SEa). The situation is similar for types Sa and Ea (1,35 and 1,33 respectively). When we examine the remaining values we can notice that the fre-quency coefficient for anticyclonic ridge (Ka) is equal to 1,21, whilst for anticyclonic situation with advection of air from northeast (NEa), and for central anticyclonic situation (Ca) ...

Delimitation of tourist activity zones in Auschwitz

Auschwitz is mainly recognized around the world for its holocaust camp, which is situated in the city and in its vicinities. The ominous Auschwitz-Birkenau camp was established during World War II and today it houses the National Auschwitz-Brzezinka Museum, which is annually visited by numerous tourist from around the world. As a result of establishment of this museum the municipal area has been transformed to a specific tourist space, which features the so-called martyrdom tourism type. Martyrdom tourism may be classified as a form of cul-tural and cognitive tourism, which is emphasized by its educational function. The level of tourism management and subsequent analysis of tourist movement enable to perform delimitation of the tourist activity zones. According to the tourist space concept developed by Liszewski four types of tourist space zones have been designated for the purpose of this research: penetration, exploration, assimilation and colonization. The above-mentioned zones have been outlined within the administrative borders of the city of Auschwitz and the nearby village of Brzezinka. Performed analysis indicates that the prevailing tourist penetration space is concentrated within the limits of the Auschwitz-Birkenau National Museum. This museum highlights the unique position of Auschwitz among other cities in Poland in terms ...

Extreme values of precipitation deficiencies and excesses in the light of contemporary climate change based on the example from the Podkarpackie province

Simulation of the increase in values and the frequency of precipitation deficiencies for cultivated crops have been carried out for the growing season (April– October). This simulation pertains to the Podkarpackie Province and takes into account following temperature increase scenarios: 1, 2 and 3oC. In this paper the agro-technical level was assumed for the end of the 20th century and sums and precipitation structure was assumed for the long-term period 1901–2000. The agricultural efficiency of precipitation was established using the multi-step regression analysis. This procedure was initiated in order to determine the dependency for dampness of the cover soil in reference to air temperature and precipitation. This study indicates that precipitation frequency during growing season along with precipitation deficiency will increase from 39% (during the period 1901– –2000) to 59, 76 and 92% respectively when we consider the above-mentioned temperature scenarios. There is a 5% probability of the increase of precipitation deficiencies during the period 1901–2000. Precipitation deficiencies will increase scenarios. ...
