Assesment results of quality study of water from Komorów reservoir on Milikówka brook

The thesis is concerned with a small reservoir Komorów situated on Mi-likówka Brook in dolnośląskie voivodship. The main function of the reservoir is water retencion for agriculture purposes and recreation. The paper includes the results from the study of the quality of water flowing into the reservoir, water re-tentioned there, and flowing out of the reservoir. The study was conducted between March and October 2009. Following water quality indicators were taken into consideration: nitrates, phosphates, water temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrolitical conductivity, reaction and water transparency. Evaluation of water quality according to the valid Regulation of Minister for the Environment regarding the means of uniform waters status classification and evaluation of waters eu-tophication was described in the thesis. Moreover, it was verified whether waters taken into scrutiny are vulnerable to nitrogen compounds pollution coming from the agricultural sources. The usability of water reservoir was estimated by com-parision of the water indicators with the limit values characterizing water suitable for swimming. The study revealed that waters flowing into the Komorów reservoir, due to the nitrate values exeeds limit values for 1st class waters. Water temperature, dis-solved oxygen, electrolitical conductivity and reaction values classify it as 1st class waters. Waters flowing out of ...

Characteristics of bottom sediments of the Dobromierz reservoir

The study presents the results of tests on the bottom sediments of the Do-bromierz Reservoir. The reservoir was put into operation in 1986; it is used as flood reservoir and drinkable water reservoir. It is located in the northern part of the catchment of Strzegomka river. In the bottom sediment samples the following substances were determined: nitrates, nitrites, ammonium nitrogen, organic nitrogen, phosphates, and phos-phorus. The authors also conducted microbiological analyses of the collected se-diments. Cultures of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria were started. The sediments were analyzed with use of electron microscope. A series of photographs documenting the composition of the sediments were taken. The test results enable us to claim that the grain size distribution of the se-diments is equivalent to that of silty loam and silty clay loam. The mineralogical composition is dominated by silicates and aluminosilicates - bottom sediments of the Dobromierz reservoir can be classified to the silicate category. The process of denitrification takes place in the sediments. Significantly higher content of phos-phates was found in the bottom sediment than in the benthic waters. The difference in the content in benthic waters and in the sediments causes internal phosphorus loading. During the analyzed period, this process did ...

The biogenic substances and eutrophication process of the water of Goczałkowice aquatic reservoir

In article the influence of loads of biogenic substances (total nitrogen and total phosphorus) inflowing with water of Wisła river on eutrophication process of water Goczałkowice reservoir was presented. The research was conducted in years 2004-2006 and 2010-2011, in vegetative seasons. The loading total phosphorus of Goczałkowice reservoir was calculated and the acceptable load and dangerous load of total phosphorus (according to Vollenveider 1976) have both been calculated. The enumerated value of loading of total phosphorus load was compared to the value of acceptable loads and dangerous loads. Moreover, biomass of phytoplankton (given in wet mass) was calculated and a species composition of phytoplankton was determined. The analyses declared that the loads of total phosphorus, which were contributed with water of Wisła river were lesser in years 2010-2011 (averagely 0,147 g P•m-2•year-1) than loads, which flowed in years 2004-2006 (0,681 g P•m-2•year-1). The first exchanged loads had exceeded only values of acceptable loads. It can indicate to the improvement of the conditions in the catchment area. In spite of the lesser inflow of the loads, it was ascertained that water of the reservoir still points out eutrophic character. The high concentrations of total phosphorus (averagely 0,05 mg ...

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF THE PRE-DAM RESERVOIR ON THE POR RIVER

In order to improve the quality of retentioned waters in dam reservoirs, the pre-dam reservoirs are built, that are localized above the main one. They aim at keeping contaminants transported by a river. The example of such solution can be the largest reservoir in Lublin region - "Nielisz". Reservoir consists of two parts divided with dam. The main reservoir (water surface area 709 ha at NPP, mean depth 2.8 m, and total capacity 18.30 mln m3) is localized in river Wieprz valley. Its catchment area is 1236.2 km2. The pre-dam reservoir of 179 ha area at NPP, mean depth of 0.7 m, and total capacity of 1.18 mln m3, is situated in river Por valley. The damming section is situated on 1.685 km of its course, while the catchment area amounts to 590.3 km2.Present research aims at presenting the analysis upon the influence of pre-dam reservoir on quality of waters supplying the main reservoir. Water samples were collected with quarter increments at the inflow and outflow from the reservoir. Analysis of results from here conducted survey univocally indicates that analyzed pre-dam reservoir contributes to significant improvement of water flowing into the main one. The largest reduction of pollutant concentrations in ...

ANALYSIS OF THE CONTENT OF POLLUTANTS IN SURFACE WATER IN THE COMMUNE OF OSTRZESZÓW

This paper presents the results of physical and chemical tests of surface water samples taken from the areas of the Ostrzeszów Commune, which is part of the Ostrzeszów County, located in the southern part of the Wielkopolska Province. The Ostrzeszów commune is included in the urban-rural areas. The physicochemical analysis of surface waters covered samples taken from seventeen measurement and control points from places as accessible as possible. The water quality was assessed in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Minister of the Environment. Surface waters were characterized by typical variability for agricultural areas, i.e. slightly alkaline, pH in the range of 7.5-8.45; specific conductivity in the range of 246-512 μS/cm; turbidity in the range of 1.7-10.5 NTU; total hardness in the range of 1.6-3.2 mmol∙dm-3 Ca2+, Mg2+; alkalinity in the range of 66-142 mg∙dm-3 CaCO3; chloride content in the range of 19-47 mg/dm3 Cl-; content of biogenic compounds, ie: nitrites in the range of 0.02-0.36 mg∙dm-3 N-NO2-; nitrates in the range of 0.05- 4,9 mg∙dm-3 N-NO3-; ammonium ion in the range of 0.04-0.94 mg∙dm-3 N-NH4+; the content of orthophosphate in the range of 0.11-1,56 mg∙dm-3 P-PO43-. The content of metals, i.e. manganese Mn, Fe iron, was characterized by ...
