Effect of different methods of potato irrigation on tu-bers infection by pathogens

The aim of the study was to determine the impact of microirrigation of Barycz, Mors and Triada potato cultivars on the infection of tubers by the most dangerous pathogens. The experiment was carried out on light soil as a two-factor split-plot design with four replications. The factors were cultivars and the following variants of irrigation: WO - without irrigation, W1 - drip irrigation, W2 - micro-sprinkler irrigation. The health status of tubers was evaluated after harvest in each year of the study. The percentage of an area of the tubers with symptoms of common scab and black scurf was determined following nine-degree (0-8) scale were: 0 = lack of disease symptoms, healthy tubers and 8 = above 50% of a tuber surface with disease symptoms. The percentage of tubers with symptoms of in-festation was estimated for other detected diseases. Symptoms of common scab and black scurf were observed on the tubers in all years of the study. Studied cultivars differed in susceptibility to Streptomyces sp. and Rhizoctonia solani. The most resistant cultivar to the first pathogen was Triada and to the second pathogen was Barycz. Symptoms of other diseases were noted sporadically and did not exceed 1% of infected tubers. ...

Efficiency of irrigation of some highbush blueberry cultivars

The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of irrigation of highbush blueberry using different types of irrigation schemes. The experiment was conducted in 2009 - 2012 on 5 cultivars: ‘Bluecrop', ‘Chandler', 'Duke', ‘Nelson', ‘Spartan'. The irrigation treatments were as follows: (i) control (without irrigation), (ii) one drip line per row of plants (100%, reference water amount determined according to tensiometer readings), (iii) two drip lines per row of plants (125% of reference water amount), (iv) drip irrigation - two drip lines per row of plants (200% of reference water amount). In 2009 and 2010 the highest total length of one-year-old shoots was observed in the plants from control combination. In 2011 the number and total length of shoots in the all irrigation treatments was higher compared to the non-irrigated one. This was confirmed in 2012. The highest plant vigor was observed in case of ‘Bluecrop' and ‘Nelson' cultivars, whereas the lowest for ‘Chandler'. Yielding of blueberry was very varied. Only in 2012 the total yield obtained from irrigated plants was higher compared to the control ones. Among the cultivar tested, the highest yield was recorded for ‘Chandler', while the lowest one for ‘Spartan'. Fruits of ‘Chandler' cultivar ...

Evaluation of requirements and effects of sprinkling faba been under different nitrogen fertilization

The paper presents the results of a field experiments with irrigation faba bean cultivar 'Olga' which were carried out on sandy soil in the years 2010-2012 nearby Bydgoszcz in the Research Centre of University of Technology and Life Science - Mochełek. Particular vegetation seasons were different, especially related to rainfall, which determined the amount of applied irrigation doses. The highest-level need for irrigation occurred in 2010, when 180 mm of irrigated water was used; while in subsequent years rainfalls were distributed more preferably thus for irrigation were used 65 mm. Based on the results, it was found that the water needs of faba bean cultivated on sandy soil in the period from April to August amounted to about 400 mm. Seed yield of faba bean collected from control plots ranged in successive years from 1.23 t.ha-1 (2010) to 5.55 t.ha-1 (2012). Irrigation increased the yield significantly by an average of 1.59 t.ha-1, the highest increase in crop (3.66 t.ha-1) was obtained in 2010 by using the highest dose of irrigation. Yield collected from irrigated plots were not stable in the subsequent years, they averaged 5.00 t.ha-1, varying between 3.84 t.ha-1 (2011), and 6.27 t.ha-1 (2012). Based on the results of ...

Influence of irrigation controlling systems on growth and flowering of gerbera

The experiment concerning irrigation controlling of gerbera cultivated in containers was done in 2012. Usually gerbera plants cultivated for cut flower production are irrigated using drippers. Correct adjustment of plant fertigation of plants grown in pots (volume and frequency of application) strongly influenced physical and chemical paramertes of growing media, plant productivity, flower quality. The systems controlling irrigation should also have the possiblity to prevent excessive leaching of nutrient solution during the period when plants requirements decreased due to unfavorable weather conditions. The aim of the experiment was to compare the effects of three methods of controlling irrigation on growth and flowering of gerbera ‘Surabaja' cultivated in containers (2 dm-3). The water consumption and leaching in each irragation treatment was also evaluated. Irrigation control systems were as follows: I - con-trol (irrigation 3 times a day, irrespectively of weather conditions, II - automatically controlled irrigation, according to water sensor readings in growing medium), III - automatically controlled irrigation according continuous readings of plant weight (all plants placed on special balance connected with irrigation controller). The aim of the experiment was to evaluate the precise control of irrigation of gerbera plants using specially designed balance, according to plant requirements and environment ...

Evaluation of thermal conditions in Bydgoszcz region on example of the station airport Bydgoszcz-Szwederowo

monthly and annual air temperature in the region of Bydgoszcz in the years 1951-2010, based on measurements from a representative meteorological station located within the Airport Bydgoszcz-Szwederowo. Air temperature measurements were carried out on the plateau, about 3.5 km from the city center. This paper presents a range of changes of the average air temperature, on the basis of selected, calculated elements of descriptive statistics. Regression analysis was performed and the linear function determined direction of studied parameters at a time. In addition, the thermal conditions prevailing in Bydgoszcz were classified based on the method proposed by Lorenc[1994]. The average air temperature in the region of Bydgoszcz, especially in the winter months, was characterized by high temporal variability, appropriate to moderate and transitional climate in Poland. Average annual air temperature was characterized by a statistically significant increase over time, at 0.17 °C per 10 years. There has been a temporary extension of the variability of average air temperature in the thirty-year 1981-2010 in 9 out of 13 examined cases, compared to the previous period 1951-1980. Months classified as normal thermal periods accounted for 40.8% of all analyzed monthly basis, throughout the study period 1951-2010. ...

Effect of sprinkling irrigation and varied nitrogen fertilization of millet cv. Gierczyckieon occurrence of phytophagous entomofauna

The sprinkling irrigation and varied nitrogen fertilisation of millet cv. Gierczyckie on insects with the hemipteroidal mouthpart occurrence were inves-tigated. The entomological experiments were conducted in 2005 and 2006 in Kruszyn Krajeński near Bydgoszcz. The largest group of insects were Thysanoptera and Hemiptera. When we used the middle rate of nitrogen fertilization, Thysanoptera was significantly less numerous. They preffered the irrigation plants. From Thysanoptera the most ab-undant were Phlaeothripidae. Number of Hemiptera was significantly less than Thysanoptera. When the high rate of nitrogen fertilization was used, the numer of Hemiptera was high, too. They were represented by Cicadellidae, Miridae, Aphi-didae and Delphacidae families. Psammotettix alienus Dahlbom. was the most numerous insects from Cicadellidae. The numbers of Macrosteles laevis Ri-baut and Empoasca pteridis Dahlbom was lower. The most frequently caught of Aphididae were the following insects: Sitobion avenae (F.) H.R.L. and Rhopalo-siphum padi L. The usage of irrigation and varied nitrogen fertilization in millet cultivation, affected on numerous of phytophagous insects such as: Lygus ruguli-pennis Popp. and Trigonotylus coelestialium Kirk. First of theirs preffered irri-gation plants with higher rate of nitrogen fertilization. ...

Effect of irrigation methods on yields of medium early potato grown on a light soil in the Pomeranian region

The aim of the study was to determine of the influence of drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation on the quantity and quality of yield of selected medium early potato cultivars. Field experiments were conducted on the soil classified to IVb valuation class and good rye complex in 2001-2003 at Kosobudy (Community of Brusy), Pomerania Voivodeship. Effective useful retention in the soil layer of con-trolled moisture (0-40 cm) amounted 29,5 mm.The experiments were carried out with two-factorial split-plot design, with four replications. The first-row factor was irrigation: O - control plots (without irrigation), K - drip-irrigated plots, D sprinkler-irrigated plots. The second-row factor: medium early potato cultivars: Barycz, Mors, Triada. The dose of cattle manure (35 t∙ha-1) was applied in autumn (before winter plowing). Fertilization with P and K amounted: 80 kg P2O5∙ha-1 and 140 kg K2O∙ha-1, respectively. Ni-trogen fertilization was used with dose 90 kg N∙ ha-1. Irrigation was conducted according to soil water potential measured by tensiometers (-0,03 MPa). The use of irrigation significantly increased the marketable tuber yield. There were no significant differences between potato yields obtained from sprinkler-irrigated plots and those from drip-irrigated plots. From among cultivars tested, Triada gave significantly higher marketable tuber yields than ...
